Watch this week’s teaser on YouTube

Taking advantage of the wind staying high, Doug crawls through sage brush as he slowly stalks a 4×4 buck. As the buck walks through a narrow oak patch, it’s now or never to take the shot.

Kneeling alongside the mule deer, Koenig said…

It’s been twenty years since I’ve hunted in Colorado, day one of the hunt began with a rainbow and a few days later I harvested my first Colorado Mule Deer with a muzzleloader.”

Specific equipment used on this hunt include T/C Encore® Pro Hunter™ XT, Leupold’s RX-1000i Rangefinder and BX-2 Acadia™ Binoculars, Hornady® bullets, Camo RedHead® RH2600 Backpack, Stony Point® shooting sticks, and RedHead® insulated leather boots.

Doug Koenig’s Championship Season presents the 2014 Sportsman’s Team Challenge

Shooting shotguns, Rimfire rifles and Centerfire handguns Doug Koenig, Jerry Miculek and Michael Plaxco represent Team Smith & Wesson® at the Sportsman’s Team Challenge in Marble Falls, Texas. The yearly competition is a multi-discipline shooting event with an emphasis on family-friendly participation and readily available affordable equipment.

The match is a two or three person team event, shooting rifle, pistol and shotgun at colorful reactive targets. As a digital countdown timer alerts competitors to their time left remaining, spectator’s adrenaline rise as they cheer for their favorite team to complete the course of fire.

There are six events, but three involve reactive steel targets that are engaged with .22 rimfire rifles, .22 rimfire pistols and centerfire pistols called the Rifle, Pistol and Combo events.

The other three events, the Flurry, Flush and Mixed Bag use aerial clay targets. The Flurry and Flush require teams to engage fifty targets in approximately one minute, while the Mixed Bag is similar to a five-stand course. The shooter does not know which trap machine will release a clay target upon their call, which adds to the fun factor and excitement level experienced.

The secrets out, more and more families are participating at Sportsman’s Team Challenge events held throughout the country and I’m happy to see interest grow. It’s fun, affordable and most folks already have the basic firearms needed to shoot with the Pro’s,” Koenig said.

Doug Koenig’s Championship Season presents “Chasing longbeards in Kansas”

It’s mid-April and Doug sets out for Lincoln, Kansas with Leupold Executive John Snodgrass hunting for Rio Turkeys this week. As Doug sights in his New TenPoint Venom™ Crossbow and John checks his T/C Encore® Pro Hunter™, the duo discuss the versatility of Leupold’s DeltaPoint™ 2 sight as the perfect choice for their separate pieces of equipment.

Unexpected cold and windy hunting conditions force the guys to set up a blind near a pinch point area. After patiently waiting hours calling birds into close range, numerous turkeys finally begin to appear. As the Tom’s strut through a mowed corn field, Hornady® Heavy Magnum® Turkey nickel-plated loads deliver lethal results to another successful days hunt.

Walking through the dry creek bottom and fields, Doug stopped and commented…

“Harvesting these beautiful Kansas gobblers and having friends with me is what memories are created from. Getting outdoors and experiencing a great hunt like this one with John will never tire.”

Doug Koenig Wins Sixth World Action Pistol Championship

photo (57)Hamburg, PA – Doug Koenig won his sixth World Action Pistol Championship on May 17, 2014 in Kentucky setting a new world record score of 480-45x on the mover and an overall score of 1918-184x. More than 150 competitors representing the United States, Europe, New Zealand and Australia shot the two day intense match. The NRA World Action Pistol Championship match, now in its ninth year, consists of four events, the Practical, Barricades, Mover Target and Falling Plates. The aggregate of each individual’s score in the four events, determines the winner of the Championship and each competitor’s final placing.

With the WAPC and Bianchi Cup scheduled back to back, Koenig purposely intensified his physical fitness training program and devoted additional time practicing at his home town range in Pennsylvania. Arriving in Kentucky a few days prior to the match to familiarize himself with the range, Koenig pushed past unexpected rain, windy days and cold temperatures. Koenig commented, “Staying focused, despite uncontrollable variables, like the weather is a critical component in my overall training regimen, it’s all about the mental aspect to being prepared.”

Winning the Open Division and as a member of USA Team One winning the World Championship, Koenig shot Hornady® 110 grain XTP bullets in his S&W Performance Center 1911 .38 Super DK model. Koenig said, “It was a real honor to represent USA Team One and knowing that each one of my sponsors played a part of my success was essential.”
