Doug Koenig’s Championship Season Presents One Shot Osceola Turkeys

Hornady Heavy Magnum Load; T/C Encore Hunter Pro

Hornady Heavy Magnum Load; T/C Encore Hunter Pro shotgun

Hamburg, PA., – After patterning their T/C Encore Pro Hunter™ shotguns at a range in Ocala, Florida, Doug joins Smith & Wesson Executives Mario Pasantes and Jan Mladek on their first Osceola hunt. While sitting in their blind, deep in the Palmetto flatwoods and cypress swamps, a curious immature eagle swoops in on the decoy set up as the calling and parading of Tom’s begin.

It’s not long before an iridescent bronze sheen breasted Osceola answers Mario’s call and a 10” bearded Tom drops from the accuracy of Hornady’s new Heavy Magnum® Turkey load. Join Doug as the hunting party learns how to camouflage a blind using palm fronds and see what unexpected creature makes a short lived appearance in the low pressured swampland of Ocala.

Koenig said “There’s no doubt, Mario and Jan thoroughly enjoyed getting out of the office; I think they’ll be back for another Osceola Turkey or maybe set out for a Grand Slam adventure.”

Scottish Red Stag Hunt with Doug Koenig

Doug sighting in his Thompson Center Venture Rifle

This week Doug travels to the remote town of Argyll, Scotland, located on the west coast near the Ardnamurchan peninsula. Head Stalker and Sporting Manager, Niall Rowantree of West Highland Hunting, guides Doug through the vast swales of the unspoiled mountainside for Scotland’s majestic Red Stag.

As Doug and Niall head out on a Mudd-Ox vehicle for a late afternoon stalk, the weather conditions change. Visibility is reduced on the mountainside as low-lying fog, misty rain and winds kick up preventing a clear line of sight. Niall has glassed a particular mature Stag which has grouped up with other hinds and now Doug must wait for the opportunity to present itself.

Tune in to see Doug’s traditional Scottish Red Stag hunt and enjoy the dramatic coastal and mountain scenery of the Scottish Highlands.

On so many levels, this was a larger than life hunting experience for me; particularly spending time with Niall,” Doug commented. “Exchanging hunting stories, preferred loads and learning how he manages the herd on these hunting estates was a great part of this trip. I’ll definitely be returning to the Scottish Highlands again.”

Doug Koenig’s Championship Season presents the 2014 Junior Sportsman’s Team Challenge

TK-STC-2014

Hamburg, PA – This week, Trevor Koenig returns to the Lone star state to reunite with his teammates ‘The Eliminators’ in the Junior Division of the Sportsman’s Team Challenge and compete alongside his Dad in the two person event. Trevor shares how important working together as a team on the shooting line is and by identifying each other’s shooting skills and strengths it will achieve a knock out shooting performance.

The course of fire is six events, three of which are reactive steel targets shooting .22 rimfire rifles, .22 rimfire pistols and centerfile pistols at different distances. The remaining three events involve shooting clay targets thrown randomly simulating hunting scenarios.

Coming off the line Trevor commented, “Stepping up to the line with a shooting strategy in place is one thing, but as the targets rush past you, the fun factor kicks in and focusing on the target becomes a real test of discipline.” Koenig has competed in the Junior Division the past five years, and has developed his own shooting style and level of confidence.

A strong advocate in supporting the next generation of shooters, Doug said, “Watching the juniors participate with their families and friends each year reinforces what the Sportsman’s Team Challenge is all about, creating a fun-filled event that builds confidence and friendships.”

Hamburg, PA., – Doug travels to the freshwater lakes in Ocala, Florida with his sons and sports training Coach John Schaeffer to fill gator nuisance tags with the help of Gator Country Trappers.
